The standard or amateur bullfighter’s cape is a fighting cape, the cape used for bullfighting in Spain, made of rigid but less heavy fabric than the professional bullfighter’s capes. It is used to set and place the bull in the ring as well as to make artistic lances.

The amateur bullfighter’s cape by the tailor Carlos Galván is made to measure, being a product completely adapted to the person who buys it or gives it as a gift and weighs between 3 and 4 kg. It measures about 110 -115 cm.

Its origin comes from the beginnings of bullfighting when the knights who went out to bullfight dressed in capes and used them in their fights with the bull. Formerly it was red and lighter.

Currently, the fighting capes are pink with an interior lined in yellow, or sometimes in blue or purple. They are made of synthetic fabric, nylon or silk, to prevent the bull’s horn from torning it, in addition to being treated so that blood does not penetrate and to give it more weight and rigidity.

The bullfighting cape is not the same as the Parade cape that the bullfighters wear during their entrance to the plaza de toros or Paseíllo and which is smaller in size and embroidered with stripes, gold and religious images.
