The Bullfighter stockings is the ultimate accessory that cannot be missing in any bullfighter’s outfit. They usually wear two pairs of stockings, the lower ones are white, made of cotton, and the upper ones are pink, made of silk & Cotton.
Despite the fact that pink is the characteristic color of bullfighter’s socks, there have been several bullfighters who have decided to innovate by wearing socks of another colors, defying tradition and superstition. Miguel Abellán and Juan José Padilla did it in 2011 by wearing black socks in Mallorca and Nimes respectively. Long before, Luis Francisco Esplá and Rafael de Paula dared to modify the traditional clothing and replaced the classic pink socks with white ones. Morante de la Puebla also wore white stockings in Plaza México, on the day of his return in a bullring in 2008, an afternoon in which he drove the Mexican public crazy, and ended up with the public carrying him on their shoulders once the show was over.
